Other Voices Berlin - Pfuelstraße - Berlin-Kreuzberg - Berlin

Other Voices is delighted to travel to Berlin to curate, produce and capture an evening of remarkable music. On the 4th of July, Other Voices, Ireland’s longest running music television programme, will travel from the west coast of Ireland to the heart of the German capital, to celebrate the longstanding cultural and musical ties between the two nations. The line-up for Other Voices Berlin spans genres and will be unified by excellence, talent and creativity. The event will take place across three venues in Kreuzberg; Fluxbau, Riverside Studios and Bebop Dance School. “We are delighted to bring Other Voices back to Berlin and to be building on the long history of artistic and cultural connections that underpin the relationship between Germany and Ireland.” – Philip King, founder Other Voices. Artists joining us in Berlin include:Dermot Kennedy | Gurr | Ryan Vail & Elma Orkestra | Dowry - Éna Brennan | Meltybrains? | Sofia Portanet | Evvol | Candice Gordon Dermot Kennedy has rapidly become one of Ireland's most sought after musicians. With sold out shows at home and abroad (including Berlin’s Columbiahalle), millions of plays on music streaming platforms and a performance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dermot Kennedy has gone from busking on the streets of Dublin to becoming a festival headliner with an international following. Gurr is a garage-rock band from Berlin. After releasing their critically acclaimed and self-produced album In My Head in 2016 Berliner 2s Laura Lee and Andreya Casablanca have taken the world by storm. Their jingly rock’n’roll striking live shows taken them across the UK, US and Germany where they have performed at Eurosonic, SXSW, The Great Escape and recorded sessions for Huw Stephens in BBC Radio 1’s Maida Vale. ‘The fizzy joy of indie as it used to be’ – The Guardian. Berlin's Sofia Portanet brings post punk and Neue Deutsche Welle into international realms with her fresh and energising take on the genre. Now with Duchess Box Records, Sofia looks to break ground internationally as well, in advance of her debut album which is scheduled for end of 2019. This week Sofia was listed by Red Bull Music as one of 11 best new musicians to watch out for in 2019. Meltybrains? are known for their captivating, imaginative electronic soundscapes and their highly theatrical live performances which are packed - from start to finish - with an infectious and incendiary energy. Meltybrains? have garnered a reputation for their unabashed creativity, picking up a loyal following that has helped them sell out shows across Ireland, the UK and the US.There are few musicians that can match the description of Elma Orkestra and Ryan Vaill. Born either side of the border in Derry, the two composers have crafted well deserved reputations as being some of the most forward thinking and boundary pushing artists in Ireland. Formerly solo artists, the two have teamed up for their latest project, Borders. A pioneering new album that spans a vast soundscape of genres, Borders is a cinematic record a unique soul and undeniable urgency. Its blend of contemporary constructs and sweeping electronica has made it one of the most innovative electronic narratives of our time. Dowry - Éna Brennan is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and composer Éna Brennan. Recent Dowry Strings projects include Imagining Ireland at the NCH & Barbican, a sold-out UK & Ireland tour with Bell X1 including an appearance on the Late Late Show, and performances with Christian Löffler in Germany. Evvol are a Berlin based dark synth pop duo. The band consists of Irish woman Julie Chance, her Australian partner Jon Dark.. Evvol's sound has been described as music that plays on dualities – light and dark, entrapment and escape, immersion and surrender. Berlin based Irish artist and songwriter Candice Gordon treads a musical line that intersects between gothic, psych, garage and post punk. With intense, high energy live performance and thoughtfully crafted songs, she has toured across Europe, and was invited to play festivals such as Reeperbahn, Bestival, Body and Soul, Truck, and Endless Daze in Cape Town. The release of her Shane MacGowan produced EP ‘Before the Sunset Ends’, and her debut album 'Garden of Beasts' garnered her critical praise (“Woozy, immersive” – The Independent.). She will release her self-produced EP 'The Sacramental Traffic Lights' in multi-media format in 2019.
