Cumbrian punks COLT 45 released their debut album The Tide Is Turning (KKKK – Kerrang!, 7/10 – Big Cheese, 6/10 – Rock Sound) last year, hot on the heels of their first appearance at the hallowed ground of Download Festival with The Offspring, Avenged Sevenfold and Aerosmith. Their brilliant debut release provided the ammunition for a relentless year of touring, including support to Three Days Grace and The Computers, alongside further UK festival appearances including Merthyr Rock, Leopallooza and Nightmare Festival.
The Tide Is Turning lead track O.K. instantly perked up the ears of BBC Radio’s Mike Davies, Huw Stephens, Jen Long and Ally McRae, alongside Kerrang! and TeamRock Radio. VEVO also showed huge support for O.K. by inviting the band to showcase the track on their hotly anticipated new talent platform DSCVR.
COLT 45 signed to Visible Noise in the summer of 2013, hours before a surprise headline slot at Cockrock Festival as rapper Wiley was booed off stage 15 minutes in to his set. Since then, the release of their double EP Coughing Up Confessions led to constant touring, including supports to Blitz Kids, Lower Than Atlantis and Young Guns, setting them up nicely to hit the studio in February 2014 with go-to UK rock producer Romesh Dodangoda (Kids In Glass Houses, Funeral For A Friend, Twin Atlantic, Motorhead) to track The Tide Is Turning.
Album title The Tide Is Turning hints at the band’s new positive outlook, explains front man Neil Harper
“The Tide Is Turning is actually a lyric from one of the songs on the album. It just stood out for us as a statement which really sums up how we all feel at the moment. We’re still pissed off, but there’s definitely a lot more light at the end of the tunnel now! We’re more balanced, and the record demonstrates that.”
2015 is shaping up to be a worthy competitor to last year, with COLT 45’s first UK headline tour in March, including a slot at Takedown Festival, following the recent unveiling of their new track Salt Water.
It seems the tide is definitely turning for COLT 45.
